Lip syncing

Here is a video of our group practicing lip syncing to our chosen song. We will at a later date add the actual song to see whether the lip syncing in in sync with the song.

Photoshop

Digipack

for my digipack I decided that we liked the idea of having us in black and white and the colour of our dresses will be in colour. This was inspired by the saturdays as they have different coloured dresses and we thought that this was a good idea as it shows we are a girl band.

I have edited a picture on photoshop and created the picture I thought will look interesting on our digipack, here is my idea.

Photoshop tutorial

Me and my group had a photoshop tutorial which really helped us. We can now use photoshop and use different effects which will help us with out digipacks and magazine adverts. We wanted to know how to make an image black and white but have certain items with an outburst of colour. I figured out how to do this by researching on the internet. I found some useful tips which didn't take me long to figure out how to use the tools on photoshop. If I am not too sure how to use certain tools on photoshop I will research this. I think that this will widen my knowledge of photoshop which will help me in the future.
The below pictures show the step by step guide which I used to help me with the process.

1) Open the file and select IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>DESATURATE to remove all colour from the image. Please note that the file is still RGB. We must not turn the colour mode to Mono or the next bit won’t work.

2) Select the History Brush from the tool palette (2a). Then make your brush size around 10 – 11 px using the palette located just under the file menu bar (2b). Hardness should be 100%.

3) Using the History Brush we can now “paint” back in time to when our image was in it’s full colour glory. Remember and lift off now and then so you can undo any mistakes without having to start again.

4) Continue the process until the area is complete. Take extra special care by zooming in when necessary. I found the area near the ladies hand needed this treatment.

And that’s it!
The secret is just to take your time during the painting process and be careful around the edges. Use any size of brush (and indeed, more than one size) for each job that you are comfortable with.

Photos for digipacks

We booked out the studio to take pictures for our digipacks and for the magazine advert. We used a DSLR camera which took high quality photos which we are all happy with.

Filming - Wednesday 11th January 2012

We started to film on the 11th January 2012 and we got some filming done. We have to re-film some of the scenes because we were not in sync with each other as we wanted to sway side to side to make the filming more interesting. Also by having these movements makes it look more of a girl group, which we desired to do.

Filming Pictures

Started Filming!

On wednesday 11th we started to film our music video and got various shots for our performative lip syncing. We had four mic stands with microphones and played the music from our phone. We got some scenes where we were lip syncing to the song which we will upload soon.

It was quite hard to lip sync as some of us didn't know the song well and got some of the words mixed up. Also we tried to be in sync with each other by having a dance routine; swaying side to side to make the scene more interesting and more in sync.

We are going to film more scenes to create our music video by using narrative scenes to it. We hope that our music video goes well and all goes to plan!

This is a Sony HD camera which we will be using for all our scenes. This video camera gives the best quality for our scenes and the quality looks best in the end result.

Equipment booking/ location booking

On Wednesday 11th January we have booked the studio to do our performative scenes to the chorus of the song. We have booked the studio for three hours which we hope to get most of our performative scenes done!

We have also booked a professional video camera to film the scenes, this is because the camera quality is high and has effects which can come in handy when filming.

Permission to film

We had to gain permission because we are using students from outside the academy so we had to ask our teacher for permission. We asked our media teacher, this is because of health and safety reasons.
The below pictures show us getting the permission:

Lip Syncing

I looked online and found some useful tips and ideas which may work when lip syncing to the song. I think that some of the tips may work but it is useful to know the song you are lip syncing too!

  • Memorize and mouth the lyrics. The least you can do if you can't actually sing them is to have them memorized. This will make it easier to match the movements of your mouth with what is supposed to be sung.
  • If lyrics to the song are unknown, repeat the words "watermelon and cantaloupes" or "carrots and peas" over and over to the rhythm of the song. It works most of the time!
  • Don't immediately give up. Practice everyday so your performance will eventually be good enough to sing for real.

These tips may help us when lip syncing, it is just remembering the lyrics and when they come in.

Inspirations

Meeting Minutes - 10th January 2012

Me and my group have found out that we are working towards a tight deadline, so we need to work really hard! It is important that we don't the project but when working towards a tight deadline we need to work to the best of our abilities.

We will all be assigned to different jobs such as editing, so this will make the process more effective if we are all working together. Also if we are assigned to different jobs we can get the project done quicker, meaning that we can focus on further editing and updating our blogs to make it the best we can.

We will be shooting on the 11th January 2012 in the studio at our sixth form. We have booked the studio for our performative chorus scenes which we can hopefully get done within the time slot we have. For our digipacks we were thinking of taking pictures so that we have some guideline for our project and to know what we are working with.

Location

These two pictures show the location outside the studio. This is a girly bedroom and represents being a 'girl' because of it being pink and having a teddy.

Story Board

Friday, 9 December 2011

7th & 9th December 2011 - Minute Sheet

Our group was discussing how the story board is going to look and how each scene is going to be performed. We decided on which characters we needed and we will be holding auditions for some of the parts. We are now completing the story board and is now coming along nicely and to our liking. We have all contributed to the story board and ideas in which we think will be a good, interesting idea for the music video.

The way we decided on the scenes in the story board is by looking at the lyrics and deciding how that particular scene will fit in with the lyrics. We tried to combine them together by putting the lyrics with the action which we think will be a good idea for our music video.

The story board is coming along nicely but when it comes to shooting the music video we may change some things as it may not go well. So we need to practice some lip syncing and some of the moves which will go with the lyrics.

Song Lyrics

When creating our music video we are going to lip sync to the song, which will make it realistic. I have found a video which will help us to remember the lyrics with the song in the background and the lyrics on the screen.

Meeting with my group - 30th November 11

Over the next couple of weeks our group is going to have regular meetings in order to make this music video successful. We want to get a range of ideas in order to make this interesting and enjoyable for the audience to watch. It is important that we get feedback from the audience as we need to know what would make this a good music video to watch.

On the 30th November 2011; 9:30 - 10:30 we had a group meeting and discussed on the music video we wanted to create a music video for. We looked at different aspects such as; whether the song was too difficult to lip sync or how we are going to create a story line for the music video.

I think that it would be a good idea to add narrative and performance in our music video. This is because it will make it more enjoyable for the audience and more interesting to have different video techniques within our video.

Now we have chosen our final song we need to draw a story board and to decide on locations and when we are going to film. These aspects will come further into the music video as for now we are deciding on the story and how we are going to film. We will draw our own story boards which will be posted soon, and will come together as a group and draw in different scenes from each of our story boards and put it together as one.

I look forward to creating a music video to The Saturdays - Ego.

Our Song Choice

Our group decided on a couple of song choices which was The Saturdays. This is because it is made up of five girls in which we can re-create this but in a different way as we have four girls including me in our group. I think that this will be a fun music video to create as we can act girly, dress up and enjoy making the music video.

The songs that we were looking at by The Saturdays were 'Up' and 'Ego'. We decided as a group to go with 'Ego' as this has a more story based theme and will be interesting to create a music video for.

The Saturdays - Up

This was one of the music videos we were deciding on as we liked the way they were moving to the music and how the different colors in the background of the music video was interesting. We didn't choose this music video as it didn't have a story line to it and would be quite difficult to try and re-create a story line or even a music video to this without trying to imitate The Saturdays.

Our final song choice:

As a group we decided to choose this song as this is  more story based music video and as a group can do more with it to make it interesting. We are looking forward to filming to this music video as we have some ideas.

Proposal as a group

This is our group proposal which we combined together to create various ideas and to pick our final song choice. From our group proposal we will decide the ideas which we like the best and will design a story board and let it all come together. We also discussed some ideas with our class mates and they come up with some good ideas.

Proposal

Here is my own personal proposal, in which our group created individual. This is because we had seperate ideas but as a group will come together and decide on one final idea.

Magazine Adverts

I am going to research into some magazine adverts that is advertising a album. This will give me and my group some inspiration for creating our own advert. The advert has to be appealing to their target audience and needs to be enticing so that they would want to buy the album.

This is Rihanna's album advert for her album 'Rated R', which was released in November 2009 as her second album. She is a R&B music artist and is still producing music to this present day. I think that this album advert is quite interesting as it is quite mysterious and the way she is holding her eye is like she is hiding something. The 'R' looks deranged which might compliment some of her songs which might not be her style of music. The darkness of the album could connote a stage that she is going through as her previous album cover is full of color but this album advert looks really serious. This could be because she wants the audience to take her seriously. I think that it is quite appealing because the audience might think that the style of music has changed from her previous album. The genre of music seems more 'rocky' and serious. She has two of her songs titles in red which are 'Russian Roulette' and 'Hard' this could be because these are big selling tracks at the time. The colour red could connote in this particular album cover blood as the colour black really makes the red stand out which is why it may be reflected to as blood. I don't think that this is showing a provocative side to the album as Rihanna is revealing any body parts so the use of the red could be that she wants to be more dominant so by using a red will make it more of a use for her. The use of the dark colours compliment the song titles which make it stand out even more. The way she is looking towards the camera is quite 'scary' and could entice the audience to buy her album.

This is Madonna's album cover which was released in September 2009. Madonna is pop/dance music artist and has had some big hits in the charts which many people enjoyed listening to. This particular advert for her album is enticing because she is using her old 80's look which might appeal to an older audience because of her style. The use of the colours are bright which are also attractive which make the audience look at the advert. Her eyeshadow is a bright blue which is appealing as it entice the audience more and with the use of her red lips is a seductive look but comes across as enticing because it is in the style of Marylin Monroe. The style of her is appealing because not many people would have this kind of style in this present day so it could make people buy it because she is producing in her style that she used to. This advert is advertising her 'Ultimate Hits Collection' which is more appealing because it will be all of her greatest hits in one album. The name of her album is 'Celebration' which might represent her re-releasing her old songs and trying to make this album big.

This album advert is for Ellie Goulding and her album name is Lights. I like this magazine advert because the use of the use of lights in her hair represent the name of her album. I think that this idea is good because the lights in her hair is a good texture to her album cover and I think that this looks appealing. Ellie Goulding's name is lit up like lights which also reflects the name of the album. I think that this is a good way to entice the audience as it really stands out and is very eye catching. Her face looks like they have used high key lighting to really highlight her face. Her facial expressions looks quite mysterious as the colours make it look more like that. I think this could be because of the use of the lights which makes her face look more suttle but with a hint of being mysterious. I really like the use of the lights in her hair as it could reflect the album title and the way she is in person. The style of writing looks quite 'posh' and could reflect some of the songs which could be classical. The picture of her looks like a portrait picture which is normally associated with that person being center of attention. She really stands out which I think is good for a album cover as you want to make your audience aware of who you are and because it is her first album she wants her target audience to be more enticed.

Choosing A Song

I think when it comes to choosing a song it would be a good idea to do a questionnaire to your target audience in order to decide on a popular song. It would also be a good idea to choose a popular song because many people will know the song and will be familiar with it. Getting audience feedback will help me and my group to decide on what kinds of music they like listening to and which song is most popular.

Here is Destiny's Child's music video Lose My Breath. Me and my group were considering to re-create this music video as we thought it would be done well as a group with all the dancing. We decided that we were not going to do this music video as we would have to learn a dance and within the space of time we have we might not be able to re-create it. I think that it would have been a good idea as the music video is based around women and our group consists of girls. But we thought that we would look into more music videos and choose one that would suit us all. I particularly like this music video because it shows how the female audience can feel dominant as Destiny Child are a well known girl band and many people will know what song we have chosen.

Music Videos

This is Jessie J's music video Price Tag, I like this song because of the catchy lyrics and the music video gives out the impression that she is living a 'dream'. This could be because of the song title 'Price Tag' in which some of the lyrics reads:
'It’s not about the money, money, money
We don’t need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag'.

I think that these lyrics try and get people thinking that they don't need money to be happy they just want to dance. I think that this would be a good music video to create our music video to as it is a catchy song and many people know the lyrics. The song is well known so many people will know who the artist is and enjoy the music video that we will produce.

This music video is by Katy Perry and is called Last Friday. I particularly enjoy this music video because the begging of the music video it like the start of a film, with film credits which gives it a sense that it will have some aspect of a film or a story that the audience follow throughout. I also like this music video because it is appealing to a younger audience and if my group was to reenact a music video like this then I think this could be successful. Katy Perry who sings this song is giving out a different image of herself, as she has braces and brightly colored clothes which shows that Katy Perry is trying to show what she was like when she was younger. When watching the music video, it looks as if it was created in an 80's era. this is because of the well known American house parties and the boys being called 'jocks's. I think that this is appealing for all types of audience because many people could relate to certain people in the music video. I also enjoy watching this music video because the lyrics are catchy and the video tells a story, which I think is successful for a music video.

This music video is by Katy Perry and is called California Gurls. This music video is showing her walking through which looks like a sweetie land which we only see in our dreams. I think that this particular music video is quite enjoyable because its like dreams coming true and its like Katy Perry wants the audience to see what she enjoys - sweets. The song is really catchy and when I hear the song it reminds me of summer, which is appealing as many people enjoy the summer season.

This music video is by Beyoncé and is called Singe Ladies (Put a ring on it). I enjoy watching this music video because it is really simple to watch as it is filmed in black and white with three dancers, one of them being Beyoncé. The simplicity of the music video makes it enjoyable to watch as the dancing is really appealing as many people tend to try and copy the dance moves. The song is also catchy and with Beyoncé being one of the most well known female music artists it makes it more of an enjoyable viewing experience for the audience.

Digipak

Here are my selected digipaks that I choose to talk about. I choose these digipaks because these are the kinds of music artist I listen to. I also like these digipaks because they all have a sense of personality within them. Most of the description is within the presentation which goes into a lot more detail about certain aspects about the digipaks.
